Manufacturing Plant Expansion & LRTU Lab — Norman, OK

Multiphase Design Keeps Facility Operational During Expansion

Challenge

Our client asked us to expand their existing commercial HVAC manufacturing plant, including a sizeable addition for a state-of-the-art testing lab, all while keeping the existing facilities operational nearly 24/7.

Success

With an aggressive timeline to meet, we started on preliminary design by using 3D modeling and staying in constant communication with the client. In less than six months, our team designed the new almost 40,000 square foot receiving and office area, allowing construction to begin while the design was being completed for the additional 212,000 square feet of manufacturing space. For the new lab, the piping, ducting and electrical equipment was designed around the client’s test equipment. This required navigating challenges such as designing utility tie-ins to allow the plant to keep running during construction. We found ways to minimize downtime during construction by planning key electrical equipment installations during the plant’s scheduled holiday break. Communication and coordination throughout the design process was vital to meeting the tight deadline and keeping the existing plant running smoothly.
