Multidisciplinary Services Give Downtown Building A Modern Makeover

Challenge

Transforming a 1970s building in the heart of downtown into a modern corporate headquarters, including designing a new data center and using existing systems to reduce costs

Success

Delivering multidisciplinary design was critical to bringing Meritrust’s newly purchased 160,000 square-foot, 10-story headquarters into the current century. MKEC worked with the owner to prioritize improvements, including replacing waste piping that was past its useful life and incorporating the existing HVAC into the new layout saving Meritrust time and money. Our team was tasked with creating a space that provided data security, redundancy, and fire suppression for a new data center. Performing a risk and structural analysis was key to determining the optimal location for it providing the best possible protection from potential storm damage. Keeping member-facing systems operational at all times was a must, so MKEC sized a back-up generator and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) allowing Meritrust’s interactive teller machines to operate 24/7. Supporting the redesign of long office corridors into modern open-space office put the final touches on the seventh through tenth floors. LED lighting replaced outdated fixtures and the new exterior color changing facade lighting truly helps Meritrust’s HQ make a statement in downtown.

MKEC understands our local climate… both weather- and contractor-related. That decision was the beginning of a team relationship that has carried forward to our latest, and largest, projects.
